Creating a Healthy Work Space: Part 8 – Positivity and Creativity
Regular breaks from your workstation (5 minutes once an hour or 10 minutes every 2 hours would be ideal) and drinking lots of water (preferably at room temperature) can ensure you are looking after your health and well-being and can also assist you to enjoy your working day. It is also important that you are not exposed to too much noise (a machine constantly in use positioned near you that makes a lot of noise or perhaps a colleague who may speak loudly whilst on the phone for example) or that you are exposed to pollution (printers and photocopiers emit radiation and are considered a hazard), and that you have some degree of privacy in your work space for at least some of the time.
It can be really helpful to support yourself in your work space by installing a pin board that has some nice sayings, photos, postcards and colourful images attached to it – perhaps even images of goals that you are trying to achieve such as a sun holiday or a new car. As I mentioned in my last post, the power of intention can have an amazing impact on an outcome.
Positive affirmations such as a daily mantra are known to transform our mental well-being, raise our self-esteem, and help us to heal emotionally. A mantra should be spoken out loud to your own reflection first thing in the morning and last thing at night (ensure the mirror is positioned at the right height and is properly framed).
Live a balanced life by getting a good night’s sleep, eating balanced diet, taking regular exercise and using meditation or breathing exercises to help you to relax. And remember, our time on this earth is limited so make the most of every day and do good deeds because what goes around comes around!
