RACHEL D (CO WICKLOW)
Brief
My brief for this project was a kitchen makeover, to refresh and personalise the room, pet-friendly practical finishes, and maximising the room’s functionality.
Scope
A total transformation without having to replace the solid wood kitchen units and to retain the dining suite and bar stools as well as the chimney breast and stove.
Details
I added some extra units, relocated the fridge, replaced the worktops with reconstituted stone and fitted a new sink, tap and hob.
The dresser is a bespoke curved design that was hand crafted and finished, and the flooring is a heavy duty contract floor covering in a terrazzo pattern that can stand up to industrial levels of wear.
My client is an artist, and her own creations were framed and hung in the room. The shutters were specially made by hand for the window by my client’s husband and then hand-painted by my clients’ daughter. Some miniature paintings were specially commissioned as a finishing touch and hung on the brick chimney breast.
I gave the lighting centre stage over the table and the island unit. To create atmosphere the light over the island unit can be raised or dropped pendulum style, while the light over the table can be dimmed as required.
