Brief
To transform the hall from a squashed and dark space to a light filled, lightweight and balanced interior with a natural feel.
Scope
Complete remodel of the space, including repositioning the front door, installing a skylight to shed light onto the stairwell, and the manufacture of a bespoke designed glass panelled fishbone staircase with open treads and curved glass sections.
Details
Unrecognisable! This totally new scheme replaces a large sweeping Victorian staircase that had crowded the space and cut across the only available window leaving little room for the swing of the front door.
Relocating the entrance to the centre of the hall maximised the newly available space and nicely balanced the flow of this area in terms of energy and traffic.
This feng shui-inspired interior is now bright and airy with a lofty feel. The view to the upstairs gallery (for the display of original artworks) adds to the spaciousness of this remodelled entrance.
Using mainly natural elements helped to create a sense of balance and harmony, and it is these materials that give this scheme a timelessness that makes the space forever attractive and easy to live with.
The spine of the staircase was specially manufactured with precision by a local engineering firm and made to measure to fit the space exactly.
Each length of flooring was hand selected to complement the rest of the scheme and light green was the clients’ colour of choice further enhancing the natural effect.
